How Affiliate link work

Affiliate links are generated by the affiliate management platform and assigned to individual partners. They typically include a parameter like ?ref=partner_key or a subdomain. When clicked, the link sets a tracking cookie or passes the identifier to the conversion tracking system. Affiliates can use their link for any promotional channel — blog posts, emails, social media, or paid ads.

Why it matters for your program

The affiliate link is the core mechanism of any affiliate program. Without it, there is no reliable way to attribute sales to partners. Custom tracking domains improve click-through rates and protect links from being flagged by browser security tools.
